Bolton...The Drug Capital Of The North?

I've lived in Bolton now since 2010. In that time I've come to learn a few things including; for the most part it's a damn friendly town, they use 'cock' as a term of endearment, they make great pasties...damn, I want a pasty now! Sadly as I write this it's 2.30am so the pasty shop is shut.

One thing that never crossed my mind however was that drug use would be prevalent, maybe I'm naive! I figured people would smoke weed, I'm not that naive, but I never really expected to have to avoid dirty hypodermic needles whilst out walking the dog. Not just one, but a handful, and not on some dark or dingy side road, but a major carriageway.

I'm not judging anyone who uses drugs of any form, and I don't want things to descend into arguments over the legal and moral implications of drugs. I'm purely posting this to show that no matter how long you've lived somewhere, how well you think you know it, it can always find a way to surprise you.

Max...Ooh, That Camera Looks Tasty

Back in December my father lost his dog Emma to cancer. After it happened, despite some reservations, he couldn't really imagine life without a dog. Because of this he found Max, a German/Dutch Shepherd cross. When he picked Max up he was around 11 weeks old, and quite a timid little fella...he's nothing like that now!

When Emma was with us not many pictures of her were taken. Sometimes, as daft as it sounds, you don't think about these things at the time do you. With Max my wife and I don't want this to be the case, we want to make sure I get plenty of pictures for my father...hence this post, and probably future posts featuring Max.

After the little bugger...oh yeah, he's a bugger now...warmed up to me, I introduced him to my camera, and he tried to eat it. I've always found it's best showing them the camera first, get them used to it rather than just shoving it in their face, never had one try eat it mind. The following images are the result of said introduction, when my lens wasn't in his mouth...they were all taken in my father's home, at the time Max wasn't allowed out until he had received his inoculations.

52 Week Project 2016: Week 02 Coming Soon...Probably

This past week saw week 2 of my 52 week project...or it should have done.

As is sometimes the case with things, life got in the way and I wasn't able to shoot last week. All being well I'll be able to catch up soon and get to producing an image a week, as is the point of the project.

52 Week Project 2016: Week 01 - Anniversary

This past week marked the start of my 52 Week Project...52 weeks, 52 themes, 52 images.

Normally with this project the entire list is laid out before you start, I however rarely conform to normal. I've come up with the idea, which is probably a terrible idea, to pick a theme randomly each week, possibly with the use of darts. Some weeks the theme won't be random, such as Christmas week, and this past week, the week of my wedding anniversary.

Now, this past week should have been a happy one, what with the back end of Christmas, and my wedding anniversary, however, life is a heartless b***h at times. Early this week my wife's companion dog of many years, Merlin, sadly passed away. As you may recall I recently posted how our families dog Emma also passed away just before Christmas, so as you can imagine, the festive season was not too happy a one for us as a family. They were both quite old, but as I'm sure we all do, none of us expected them to get poorly, nor pass away.

Because of these past few weeks I nearly postponed this first week, I however quickly came to the conclusion that if I did this, I'd probably end up dropping the project before it started. To that end I knocked up a shoot earlier today...

At first glance it may seem a little weird the dead roses behind the card, however, they are the bouquet my wife carried the day we married, the card and the wedding rings are kinda obvious.

Hopefully life, and our luck will pick up soon and I can put more time into my shoots...

The theme for week 2 is: TBC
